In the early mornings and late evening, flocks of Egrets can be found roosting in dead trees in or near the lakes or ponds. This flock is primarily Cattle Egrets in breeding plumage. (Note the colored heads in upper right inset.) There is also a Great Egret with outspread wings. (Note the longer neck in lower right inset.) Singly and in small groups, Great Egrets frequent the shallow waters and the tall grasses along the edges of the ponds across the ranch.
